Top 10 Best Business Class Airlines – Ranked by a Million-Mile Traveller
Updated on February 16th, 2026 at 12:26 pm
What is the best Business Class in the world?
After flying more than 100 airlines and experiencing 40+ different Business Class cabins, I’ve learned something important: Not all “flat beds” are created equal.
Twelve years ago, I paid for my very first proper Business Class ticket with Etihad. At the time, I thought it would be a once-in-a-while indulgence – I couldn’t have been more wrong.
A decade later, Business Class has evolved from simple comfort into something far more aspirational. It’s no longer just about a lie-flat seat. It’s about skipping the queues, gliding through priority check-in, unwinding in world-class lounges with a glass of champagne, enjoying restaurant-quality dining at 35,000 feet, and arriving rested behind a privacy door rather than bleary-eyed from economy.
The bed matters. The bedding matters. But the experience matters even more.
Flying Business Class isn’t just transport anymore: it’s part of the journey itself.
The Ranking Process
There are many factors that make an airline product. Rather than creating an arbitrary ranking, my approach takes into consideration each of those important elements and rate individually. The intention is to be objectively as fair as possible.
All airlines listed, I have flown in multiple occasions.
8 categories came apparent to me which I detail below, with a score of 10 being absolute perfection (there is only one score for that one!)
Ground Service –This would include things as check-in experience, lounge and quality of them, fast track security, ease of connections and transfer assistance where applicable
Staff – Here I would consider such things as communication, general manners and friendliness. Staff psyche is perhaps a complex area that binds all the other elements together, in a make or break fashion.
Service standards – This is one very much down to each airline to instil and would factor in crew availability, ratio of crew to passenger/responsiveness, wider airline communication, dine-on-demand, appropriate level of catering for flight duration, turn-down, cabin and seat cleanliness etc
Physical Product – This includes the seats, layout of the cabin, privacy, noise levels, cabin ambience and lighting, storage etc
Food & Beverage – Including quality, range of choice, ability to order in advance
Entertainment – Range and quality of offering from movies, documentaries/Sports, Music, Interactive Games, Connectivity etc
Bed & Amenities – The length and width of the bed, any restrictions in feet area, bedding and pillows provided
Customer Service – Everything before & after flying (this is a tricky marker since I cannot apply that uniformly across all airlines if I have not had anything go wrong with that specific airline to see how they would deal with that. It is entirely possible to fly an airline many many times without you needing to deal with their customer service element)
I have given every airline a baseline score of 6, and if I had any experience either way, I am adding or deducting against that)
Top 10 Best Business Class Airlines 2026
10. Etihad ( Score 63.5 )

Ground Service: 8 Staff: 7.5 Service Standards: 8 Physical Product: 8.5 Food & Beverage: 8.5 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 8 Customer Service: 7 |
The airline where my obsession with luxury travel all began! Etihad Business Studio has been a great hard product which has now been brought up to date on A350 and 787 Suites too. In recent years, it’s been a joy to see Etihad’s resurgence after many years of financial troubles and cut backs. They are doing so well, they’ve bought back most of their A380s from retirement ! And these Business products are still competitive, together with the solid soft product touches and dine on demand. The brand new Terminal A in Zayed International is stunning as is the lounge, if you can even call it JUST a lounge! It also offers complimentary Chauffeur, for the higher fare within UAE. You can check if you booking is eligible with the link above. |
9. SWISS ( Score 64 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 8 Service Standards: 7.5 Physical Product: 8.5 Food & Beverage: 8 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 7 Customer Service: 7 |
Swiss is one of my favourite European airlines for long haul for a while and I still have a soft spot for them. They began really falling behind in their product, but with the introduction of SWISS Senses Business Class they are back in the game. Having said that, this product is not world leading in anyway due to launch delay. But I particularly like the innovations such as your own temperature control – getting too warm in your seat is a common bug bear ! Coinciding with the Allegris launch, they have improved the soft product with new elevated dining and amenities. Zurich airport is also very efficient for connections with nice business lounge offerings. |
8. Air France ( Score 64.5 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 8 Service Standards: 8 Physical Product: 8.5 Food & Beverage: 8.5 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 8 Customer Service: 7 |
Air France is an airline I had mixed feelings about in the past. I always thought they were a little over rated and never went out of my way to fly them. In recent years I have flown them more. They do offer a competitive hard product, especially the NEW Suites ( though flying on them can be tricky as few aircraft have them ). I’ve booked the latest product 3 different times, and in all instances there was an aircraft swap ! So I ended up in this Air France A350 Business Class a few times. The service standard is also very good, though catering is still something that has never wowed me. Its good, but I found nothing to gush about. |
8. Finnair (Score 64.5)
A special double entry here at 8th place

|
Ground Service: 7.5 Staff: 8 Service Standards: 7.5 Physical Product: 8.5 Food & Beverage: 7.5 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 9 Customer Service: 8 |
Finnair has been a boutique oneworld player that has always offered a pleasant Nordic experience in the skies. In recent years, it has Finnair celebrated it’s centenary year and has upped it’s game with their offering. Not only has their service and catering improved, the hard product, AirLounge is fresh, stylish and innovate. Plus, it one of those rare carriers that provides a consistent product no matter what route/aircraft you fly in now. This one deserves a special mention because most airlines fall flat on their face with advertising their shiny new product and then shafting you with something far inferior after booking ! Qatar, Turkish, Air France et all have been notorious at this and it’s not cool. |
7. Emirates (Score 65.5)

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 8 Service Standards: 8 Physical Product: 6.5 Food & Beverage: 7.5 Entertainment: 10 Bed & Amenities: 7 Customer Service: 6 |
For an airline that has managed to create such a huge premium brand image over the last decade and half, Emirates offering in Business Class is not anywhere it should be. Sure, the A380 itself is fantastic with the bar and full aisle access is lovely but this is now over 16 years old! Worse still, you have a fair chance of ending up on a 777 in a 2-3-2 configuration with angle flat beds! In this day and age that is somewhat unforgivable. Emirates is progressing fast with it’s colossal retrofit program. However what is rather disappointing is there is no innovative or ground breaking product of any sort – when they had every chance to do so! With the new A350s – reports suggest somewhat of a regressive product in terms of comfort ! Having said all that, it does still offer good amenities onboard and an impressive beverage selection. The lounges in the network are decent and they offer complimentary Chauffeur‑drive to and from the airport which is a great perk that even most First Class do not offer. |
6. Virgin Atlantic ( Score 65.5 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 8.5 Service Standards: 8 Physical Product: 7.5 Food & Beverage: 8 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 9 Customer Service: 8 |
I had never been a fan of Virgin’s old Herringbone Upper Class that faces away from the window and generally feels exposed. Thankfully Virgin has not only introduced a decent hard product for its A350‘s but even improved version with ThomsonXL on the new A330Neos Best of all, the A330Neos also feature a Business Plus type of product called the Retreat, which are First Class like seats passengers can upgrade into. Virgin has always been a fun airline to fly with and the crew are very much make part of that. It certainly strives to offer the rockstar service it has long branded itself on for Upper Class. Meanwhile Virgin Clubhouse lounges are by far some of the best Business lounges in the world! Even if they are facing stiffer competition. |
5. Singapore Airlines ( Score 66 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 9 Service Standards: 9 Physical Product: 9 Food & Beverage: 8.5 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 8 Customer Service: 8.5 |
Dropping quite a few spots in ranking here mostly because other airlines have improved more ! As far as I remember Singapore Airlines has always had that brand allure, no doubt helped by the iconic Singapore Girl halo affect. Between 2018-2020 I flew every single Business Class they seats they offered at the time, which I believe was 6 or 7 different products. The never ending delay of the 777X launch means SQ is flying a Business Class products that are a decade and half old in concept and design – even with minor refreshes in 2017/18. Yes this isn’t entirely Singapore’s fault – and they are trying to move the NEW business class product into 350’s now by tail end of 2026 to remedy the situation. The service, staff and amenities are still excellent however. Though my experiment with ordering special meals with Singapore backfired. |
4. Turkish Airlines ( Score 66 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 8.5 Service Standards: 9 Physical Product: 6 Food & Beverage: 9 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 9 Customer Service: 6 |
Turkish Airlines is huge, flying to more destinations that any other in this list. Their Business offering is solid with excellent lounges in Istanbul airport as well as outstation airports like Bangkok. Turkish offer free stopover tours or hotel if your connection is longer than 8 hours. Big downside is the vast majority of their aircrafts feature a very dated business class. Newer 787s and A350 offers a better seat for privacy but narrow. Also they are notorious for aircraft changes. Turkish have acquired several ex Aeroflot A350’s which feature a great Business Class Suite marketed as Horizon Premier – this is an excellent product that would be improved even further with their own designed Crystal Business Suite that is due this year. |
3. Cathay Pacific (Score 69)

Cathay Pacific has gone through some rocky times and it seems to be coming out stronger than I would have imagined. They have long had a solid product offering and they have iterated and improved on the product with every major new aircraft type they’ve taken delivery of. The customised Cirrus III evolved into a near perfect product with the A350s but now they have a new more in trend offering in the form of the Aria Suite Service and catering is superb – though there is one gripe I’ve had with them in that the catering is heavily pork based ( it’s understandable as they would naturally cater to their local tastes and that of their biggest market, China ) and special meals are also weak, much like Singapore Airlines ! |
2. Qatar Airways ( Score 69.5 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 9 Service Standards: 9 Physical Product: 9.5 Food & Beverage: 9.5 Entertainment: 9 Bed & Amenities: 9 Customer Service: 6.5 |
Qatar Airways QSuite, self branded as First in Business, generally lives up to it! It is the only carrier to offer a Caviar service, in Business Class!! Though it is on very limited routes out of Doha. Qatar has long been a disrupter in the industry by pushing the boundaries of luxury in Business Class. Way back from my first encounter with them in 2001 when I was still in school and have always felt a sense of innovative quality and charm about the airline. It is not without any flaws mind, in bed mode I’ve always found the QSuite a tad bit tight! Which is why it does not get a perfect 10 here. If I’m totally honest, Qatar has been riding that QSuite wave for 9 years now, and it’s long due a refresh. QSuite2.0 has been in pipeline for a while, not a single aircraft have this yet. Again, this is partly due to 777X fiasco but I’d have expected Qatar to be more proactive and introduced them in 350s and 777W refits by now. Other downsides is customer experience can sometimes be a little inconsistent, something Singapore excels at. When it all goes right, which you have a high chance of, the product, food and service can really feel like First Class! |
1. Japan Airlines ( Score 70.5 )

|
Ground Service: 8.5 Staff: 9.5 Service Standards: 9 Physical Product: 9 Food & Beverage: 9 Entertainment: 8 Bed & Amenities: 8.5 Customer Service: 9 |
Coming in at my number one for 2026 might be a surprise to some ! Japan Airlines is a superb way to fly across the world. It’s quietly proving to be able to deliver a world class product in every way – but without the hype and self congratulations of some Middle Eastern carriers. In 2024, JAL introduced a new Business Class product that is truly cutting edge based on the Safron Unity platform – even if it initially did not have that feeling. This product is proving to be a winner for most people. Elsewhere, the Apex Suites are so good on the 777s the upgrade to First would only be a minor improvement in most ways! Other long haul aircrafts like 789 also feature an excellent reverse herringbone product. The service level is always reliably good delivered by amongst the most gracious crew you will find in the air. Japanese style catering is excellent as is western options. |
Overall Thoughts
These are not just the best business class seats, but what I consider overall best Business products.
Since I score all categories and airlines in isolation first and then compiled – I like that it’s always a little surprising to me where each airline ends up.
I rated 18 airlines in total. In 2026, British Airways Club Suites slipped to 12th position. And Oman Air’s fantastic Alex Suites have dropped to 11th. Closely following them is Iberia, which has improved dramatically – especially in service and catering. Their hard product is just about keeping up. Of the best Business Class from US airlines, United came out on top for me at no 15.
What surprises me was how close each airline was to the next, which is mostly a testament to how far we’ve come in Business Class luxury! Some airlines to watch out for in future include Air India which is in a midst of a major turn around – they came in at no 14 – with my recent Air India Business Class on their new A350 easily beating any comparable service by any Western carriers. They will also be introducing their a top of the range new Business Product based off the Saffron Unity experience.
I am aware there are some popular airlines missing here, notably All Nippon Airways Qantas & Lufthansa, some I want to fly more on before ranking, but Lufthansa Business has generally been something I avoid, and this whole Allegris saga and recent cost-cutting has not helped their image! I did have ANA’s brand new The Room booked not once but trice but had to cancel each time due to Japan having closed borders for such a long time.
