Welcome to Cathay Pacific The Deck Lounge, where you can enjoy a nice cocktail over a terraced deck, sample inspired dishes from the infamous Noodle Bar, refresh in the luxuriously appointed showers before you take your flight.
As Hong Kong opened up to the world and back to normality Cathay Pacific has been gradually restoring services which means it has also been opening up it’s lounges in it’s Hong Kong base.
There are several Cathay lounges dotted around Hong Kong International. This Deck had been closed for a long while and only fully re-opened in February 2023.
This lounge is located in Terminal 1 near Gate 6. It is supposedly on level 7 but it seemed like it’s level 3 if you thought of Departures as level 2. Anyway, you have to take an escalator up specifically to this lounge
The lounge is open from 5.30am – 12:30am so normal times as pre-covid.
First & Business Class passengers flying Cathay/Oneworld can use this lounge as well as Cathay/Oneworld Sapphire status holders and above as well as Cathay Lounge pass holders.
As usual, status holders may also bring a guest along, but business class passengers are not.
Once you are up the escalator you will realize this section of the floor is mostly dedicated to The Deck Lounge.. so you have an open reception area around the left
The reception was manned by several staff who were very polite and efficient with getting people in and out as as to not block the entry space..
I entered the lounge just past 8pm so it was perhaps as busy as it gets here..
The space is broke up into 4 different zones, and you enter this area where there are some single seating and double sofas
The wood panel partitioning breaks what is essentially one big room into 3 parts
The mid section has more larger sofa and group spaces, which were almost all fully occupied..
If you’ve been to any Cathay lounge before, you will feel instantly at “home” in the sense that they do a good job of maintaining a consistent deco and ambiance across their network of lounges..
The third portion of the main room and immediately by the terrace area is the formal dining area. Again this was completely full and I did not want to take pictures at risk of capturing anyone eating.
Behind that main room you have a more quieter work/lounge space with the classic deep green Cathay sofa loungers
If you follow through straight from the main room you enter, you will go pass the Noodle Bar and more formal dining area out into this..
As you can see compared to inside the terrace seemed a little more spread out. However, being late in the evening you cannot see anything out the airport really other than the people traffic in the main terminal area..
The signature Noodle Bar is a feature of Cathay Lounges and this one was perhaps on the smaller end and once again very busy at the time I was there
When I went back 20 minutes later, I found a free stall to sit and decided to check out the offering..
Unfortunately I cannot try some of the popular dishes as I do not eat pork or pork related products, but did settle for some chicken and veg dim sums..
They were great so I ordered the exact same thing twice..
In the main lounge area there is a hot buffet selection too..
You have several choices of hot dishes for dinner
There was nothing in there that particularly stood out, so I did enjoy some cheese and desserts.
There were a good range and choice of beverages on offer too from stocked fridges with various soft drinks and the hard stuff. This lounge does not have a formal bar however almost everything is available for self service.
The lounge has 2 large restrooms for men and women and they looked identical to almost any other Cathay Lounge restroom at home or across the world..
As usual also stocked with Bamford wash amenities.
Cathay Pacific The Deck Lounge Restroom Hand Dryer
The whole place was spotlessly clean and fresh. Something that we can take for granted, until we come across a lounge that isn’t so.
This is solid lounge offering by Cathay, and perhaps on the smaller side of all the other Cathay home lounges. Due to the fact that the Wing Business lounge nearby is still closed, this lounge was super busy in the evening. Naturally I therefore did not find it as relaxing as I would expect a good lounge to be.
The terrace is certainly a nice feature and would no doubt be my choice of seating during daylight hours or enjoying a sunset with a drink. In the pitch dark of the night however, the best you will see is reflections back of the hustle and bustle of the terminal area.
The dim sums in the Noodle bar were excellent. Though I did not try the other buffet food options. They seemed popular with other passengers. For full catering options and up-to-date opening hours check their site here
