The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur is a 1930’s colonial era Hotel Majestic claimed as “an icon of Malaya’s boom years leading to World War II”. It was one of the grandest hotels in South East Asia.
The hotel shut post war but it’s glamourous history and heritage deemed too charming to be ignored. The hotel re-opened with expanded footprint around the neo-classical details of the Majestic Wing.
From sophisticated parlours, a grand ballroom that can host 1200 guests and drawing rooms resuscitated from a bygone era. This now, Autograph Collection of hotels shows it possible to intertwine historical fabrics of an establishment with present day modern luxuries.
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur sits on 3.2 acres of Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, opposite the striking old Moorish style railway station.
It is about 25min walk from Sentral Station which is a Kuala Lumper hub. Express rail link to Kuala Lumpur International Airport within 28 minutes.
Unfortunately, KL is not a pedestrian friendly city, so you will have to drive or use taxi’s for most things and public transport is not very extensive.
This was a quick side-trip to catch up with some friends, I arrived late in the afternoon on a flight from Singapore..
As you might expect from an upscale establishment the whole check in experience was very polished, with footman at the door to greet you as soon as you are out of the taxi and escort you in. Not that I needed a hand, when travelling quite light!
The lobby has been tastefully decorated under a huge pearl shaped chandelier
Unfortunately I booked the room with a OTA, and thus was not able to enjoy my Marriot status benefits ( once again !)
I was allocated a room on the 15 storey modern Tower Wing, which is perhaps what I actually booked, but I did not remember the distinction being made at time of booking..
The Deluxe options are all King sized rooms with extra-large double beds with a modern elegant four poster frame..
Alongside 2 bedside units and high padded headboards, the rooms come with a huge ottoman bench.
The rooms are equipped with a coffee machine with a box of supplies, 2 bottles of water, some snacks and a fully stocked mini-bar..
The deluxe room is also equipped with a decent sized leather corner sofa with a coffee table
Alongside standard TV, there is a decent sized desk with all connectivity options and a large mirror.
In addition to a generous sides storage closet, I liked the free standing coat stand with a separate trouser bit! Very useful when you want to lay out what you might wear in the morning 🙂
There was also some views out from the room, though nothing spectacular on this side of the building…
Continuing through, the bathrooms here in my opinion are the real show-piece…
The en-suite bathroom is pretty big with double vanity units and individual mirrors on both ends of a centrally placed bathtub. It all looked very lush and inviting!
Then you have a separate good sized shower and WC cubicle through glass doors.
It felt like a perfect blend of modern and traditional touches..
Also who doesn’t love having a TV screen to enjoy a movie in the bathtub??
From luxury robes and slippers, all the comforts and toiletries you might need were provided.
All in all, the bathroom fit-out in the Deluxe rooms are so good, that when I looked at potentially booking the Junior Suite I did note that even at that category bathrooms were more or less the same. Rather impressive!
Designed in the Art Nouveau style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s famous Willow Tearooms, the Majestic Spa and much of the heritage grounds gave me a very lady’s who lunch kind of vibe, in a good way!
Out of respect of hotel privacy policies, I could not take pictures of all the facilities with other guests present.
The Spa offers an extensive array of treatments from facials, massages and afternoon tea experiences to enjoy along with the Spa facilities.
The hotel features 2 swimming pool, and a full fitness centre.
I did enjoy a couple of dips one of the pools on the modern side which was quieter than than the ground level one on the Heritage Wing..
The Majestic Wing features the all Suites with Colonial Cafe, Orchid Conservatory, Drawing Room and The Tea Lounge.
For food and beverage wise, there are 5 different restaurants!
Here is what the Colonial Cafe looks like..
And the more modern Contango restaurant in the Tower Wing..
I loved my short stay here, it is a delightful hotel with a very nice ambience and touch of refined elegance and grace. I wish I had more time to actually make enjoy it all, given I spent most of my short time in this KL trip outside the hotel.
I was visiting friends who are living in KL and wanted to actually have dinner here with them one night but we found other options in town!
Was also tempted to book the Junior Suite, but felt rather pointless unless you want to share all that space with someone else at least.
